About me
Tanja Meyburgh is an esteemed psychologist, trainer, and supervisor specialising in Family
and Systems Constellations, with over two decades of experience in the field. Since 2003,
she has been a prominent contributor to international conferences, training programs, and
publications. As the author of Reclaiming Ancestors, Tanja explores her personal and
collective journey of rediscovering ancestral wisdom and its connection to trans-generational
systemic work rooted in Southern African traditional lineage practices. Her book offers
readers a powerful reflection on the lost harmony with nature and wisdom, guiding them on a
path to reconnect with their own ancestral heritage.
Holding an MA in Narrative Therapy, Tanja’s work is deeply influenced by her focus on
power dynamics and the voices of marginalized communities. She is widely recognized for
incorporating land, embodiment, and the collective into her systemic practice. Through her
work, Tanja creates a creative, experiential learning space that fosters profound connection
to the soul and spirit, grounded in psychological theory and practice. Her expertise in self-
growth, personal and collective rituals, and embodiment allows her to support clients in
navigating their personal and professional journeys with depth and integrity.

Author of Reclaiming Ancestors Systemic Psychologist, Constellations Facilitator, and Trainer
As the author of Reclaiming Ancestors, Tanja shares her personal and collective journey of being a westerner searching for a reconnection to ancestral wisdom, and to the root of trans-generational systemic work that lies in Southern African traditional lineage wisdom. Realising what she had lost, about a life lived in harmony with nature and greater wisdom, she takes the reader through a journey of how she reclaimed her own ancestors, and guides the reader to the beginning of a modern path of reclaiming one’s own ancestors that honors their roots the lands from which they come.
Celebrating Over 21 Years of Family Constellations
When I first encountered Family Constellations, there were very few opportunities to experience this work in South Africa. I collaborated with Dr Ursula Franke, psychotherapist and author who facilitated my first constellation, and business coach and trainer Svenja Wachter to establish the first South African International Training, bringing in first-generation trainers from Germany. In 2010, I founded African Constellations, a family and systems constellation training programme which has since trained hundreds of facilitators and become an internationally recognized. As the work grew in its scope and influence, other trainers joined us, and together we founded the Systemic Constellations Association of Southern Africa.

Expanding My Work Internationally
I have presented at numerous conferences and international workshops in countries such as Germany, Australia, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Bali, Brazil and the United Kingdom. During COVID-19, we moved online, which allowed me to reach countries as far as the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Brazil, Namibia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the United States. I have worked with groups spanning 18 countries in a single session.
Specializing in Ancestral Connections
My work has evolved to include land constellations and movement-assisted ancestral connections. I have also specialized in working with the ancestral field, embodiment and with multicultural and diverse groups, creating a space for deeper ancestral connection and healing.
Integrating Narrative Therapy
With a master’s degree in Narrative Therapy, I’ve developed a unique approach to Family Constellations that that addresses various power issues and some controversy found in some of the early work of Bert Hellinger. Issues around diversity, appropriation, gender, facilitator-client relations, decolonisation and racial equity have been an important component of my work in South Africa
African Constellations Today
Today, African Constellations is a well-established training institute known for its collaborative partnerships with leading global institutions. We are recognized as the institute of choice for training and research, particularly for those seeking to work multiculturally and honour the African lineage root of constellation work that lies within the originator of family constellation work, Bert Hellinger, who spent 16 years in South Africa. We offer training for psychologists, coaches, and traditional healers, integrating systemic work within their expertise. In these diverse training circles, we work through ancestral trauma and legacies of apartheid and colonisation, promoting individual and collective healing.
Reclaiming Ancestors
My book, Reclaiming Ancestors – A modern Path to Ancient Ways is a testament to my journey, offering insights and stories from years of practice. My hope is that it will help you in unimaginable ways, even if you didn’t realise that there was something missing in your life. Reclaiming lost or forgotten parts of the soul can make us feel whole again. This wisdom is interwoven from the teachings of my mentors, meaningful conversations, and my work with countless individuals and their ancestral lines.
